ON WATER: FOR KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

Water is the new key focus topic for knowledge exchange at the Berlin University Alliance (BUA). With this focus, the Alliance addresses the Earth's most vital resource, essential for all life on our planet. At the same time, water is finite – and increasingly threatened by the impacts of climate change, conflicts over access to water, its pollution, and overuse. Research on water is therefore fundamental to understanding the ecological, political, technical, economic, cultural, and social dimensions of these challenges. Such research can only achieve transformative impact through exchange with society, as it drives and shapes the necessary transformation.

The Berlin University Alliance is addressing the new focus topic of “water” with the programmes On Water PARCOURS from the Knowledge Exchange Office and On Water DIALOGE from the TD-Lab, as well as the exhibition On Water: WasserWissen in Berlin at the Humboldt Labor. The ON WATER series promotes a dynamic, multidirectional exchange of knowledge about Berlin's blue-green infrastructure and brings together researchers from all four universities with Berliners, communities and experts for joint research and learning.d bringt Forscher*innen aller vier Universitäten mit Berliner*innen, Communities und Expert*innen zum gemeinsamen Forschen und Lernen zusammen.

The Berlin University Alliance is a consortium of four strong partners: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Its goal is to implement joint projects between the four institutions, thereby fulfilling their social responsibility and setting an example. The research achievements of these four institutions contribute to establishing Berlin as an integrated research area and thus a leading scientific location in Germany.
